FINLAND - One of the best known names in mineral recovery, OUTOKUMPU TECHNOLOGY, continues to sell its processing equipment to the far corners of the world.

The company has won an additional contract for the delivery of the complete thickening circuit at the Boddington gold mine expansion project in Australia. The largest unit is a 74-m SupaFlo high-rate thickener. Earlier, Outokumpu was awarded the flash flotation circuit for the project.

A leading Chinese zinc producer, HUNAN ZHUYE TORCH METALS, has asked Outokumpu to supply a leaching plant for its refinery expansion. Outokumpu will engineer the project with its new atmospheric direct leaching process, iron precipitation and solution purification processes. The European manufacturer will also supply the main equipment and supervise the installation and commissioning. The expanded plant will have a capacity of 100,000 t/y zinc and be operational by July 2008.

Outokumpu has also signed a contract with NORILSK NICKEL for the modernization of a flash smelting production line. Outokumpu's mandate includes engineering, equipment procurement, installation and commissioning services for the No.1 furnace. The flash smelting process, first invented in 1949 by Outokumpu, has received ASM Historical Landmark Status and recognition as one of the best available techniques for production processes by the European Union because of its energy-saving and environmental benefits.
