Dr. Matthew Pierce is the new director for the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation‘s (CEMI) Rio Tinto Centre for Underground Mines Construction in Sudbury, ON. Dr. Erick Eberhardt takes up the role of associate director. Pierce replaces Dr. Peter Kaiser, a founder of the centre.

Castle Mountain Mining Company has promoted Warren Woods to the post of VP operations and COO. He joined the company earlier this year, and prior to that he was at Allied Nevada Gold.

Roland Horst has become a board member at Toronto-based Goldeye Explorations. He held executive and board positions at a long list of Canadian mining companies and also garnered experience as an investment banker. Horst holds a MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business Administration, University of Western Ontario, an LLB from the University of Western Ontario, a MSc in geology from Laurentian University and a BSc in geology from McGill University. Currently, he is on the Leadership Council of Western and on the advisory board to the Goodman School of Mines at Laurentian University.

Toronto’s Kombat Copper has appointed Allan Polk as COO, effective immediately. Polk recently worked at Pan American Silver as the director of mining engineering and was a principal engineer at Snowden Mining Industry Consultants in Vancouver.

The new CEO and president of Sierra Metals in Vancouver is Audra Walsh. Previously she was the president and CEO of Minera SA and the controlling shareholder of Orvana Minerals. She holds a BSc in mine engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
