Corazon Gold Corp. of Vancouver has named Victor Goncalves to the posts of president and CEO. Bradley Scharfe, who had been interim CEO since 2014, has become chairman. Additionally, Jorge Orellana has joined the company as VP corporate development. Vancouver-based Galena International Resources has appointed a new president and CEO, Mark N.J. Ashcroft. He is a mining engineer with more than 25 years of experience, including as president and CEO of Stonegate Agricom. Klondex Mines of Vancouver has announced a pair of key hires. Ian McMullan is now director of mining and engineering. John Antwi is senior VP of strategic development. Both are former Newmont Mines employees. Michel Bouchard has become the chairman of Monarques Gold Corp. of Quebec City. He is credited with the discovery of what became the Bouchard-Hebert gold mine in northwestern Quebec, and he was until recently president and CEO of Clifton Star Resources. Bouchard replaces Michel Baril as chairman, and Baril will now chair the audit committee. The new president and COO of MX Gold Corp. in Vancouver is Hugh (Bert) McPherson. He will shoulder responsibility for the company’s Max mine and Willa mill project in British Columbia. His 37 years of operating experience includes manager of the Penasquito mine in Mexico, VP and general manager of the Tasiast mine in Mauritania, and manager of the Alto Cicama project in Peru. McPherson holds a mine engineering degree from Queen’s University.
