MINING PEOPLE: Dominion Diamond, Firesteel, Kariana, NWM Mining, and SGS

Toronto's Dominion Diamond Corp. has named Chantal Lavoie the new president and COO for Dominion Diamond Ekati Corp., effective July 1, 2013. Based in Yellowknife, NT, he will be responsible for the company's mining operations. His experience includes management positions at the Victor, Snap Lake and Gahcho Kué diamond projects.

Michael Hepworth has assumed the role of president and CEO at Firesteel Resources in Vancouver. He had been serving in the same capacity on an interim basis.

Kariana Resources of Vancouver has appointed Nicholas Miller as its new CEO, following the resignation of Joel Dumaresq.

The new president and CEO of Toronto-based NWM Mining Corp. is Darren Koningen. Holder of a degree in mineral process engineering from Queen's University, he has over 20 years experience in project development and mine commissioning. Koningen was also a founder of Castle Gold Corp.

SGS Canada of Lakefield, ON, has promoted Dr. Stephen Mackie to group manager of hydrometallurgy. He was previously group leader of advanced technologies at SGS Minerals Services.
