Jim Excell has joined Advanced Explorations of Toronto as a special advisor. He managed and developed some of the world's premier mining projects in Canada, the United States and Australia, including the Ekati diamond mine in the Northwest Territories.

 

Toronto-based Alamos Gold has named Herve Thiboutot its new VP exploration. Among his recent accomplishments is the job of project manager at Goldcorp's Eleanore gold project. He is a graduate of the Laval University in Quebec. Additionally, the company has named Marc Jutras is director of mineral resources. He holds degrees from Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal and the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi.

 

Minera Andes, headquartered in Spokane, Wash., has elevated Rob McEwen to the role of executive chairman. Richard Brissenden and Michael Stein have also joined the board, and Dr. Arthur D. Drummond has retired.

 

Toronto's Silvermet recently named Rein Lehari, formerly CFO, to the role of president and COO. Basil Carter has been appointed managing director of European operations.

 

Former president and CEO of Western Canadian coal, Charles G. Pitcher, has been named to the board of directors at SNS Silver of Vancouver. He will also chair the advisory committee. SNS has interests in the Crescent and Sunshine silver mines in northern Idaho.
