Jim Harrington has been named president of the new Alexco Environmental Group, a division of Alexco Resource Corp. of Vancouver.

 

Alexis Minerals of Toronto has appointed Jamie Lavigne as VP exploration. He was most recently as VP exploration at Garson Gold, which was recently acquired by Alexis. His 20+ years of experience includes more than 20 years at companies such as FNX Mining, Cominco and Western Mining. He also worked in the Mineral Deposits Division at the Geological Survey of Canada.

 

Peter Cosgrove, chairman and CEO of Excellon Resources, has received Ontario's highest honour, the Order of Ontario, for his contributions to health care, cancer care organizations and the business community.

 

Paul Clark has joined Maryn International, a Calgary based manufacturer of high-performance specialty lubricants and additives, as senior mining advisor. He is a graduate of Haileybury School of Mines and the University of Alaska.

 

Toronto-based Fortune Minerals has named a new senior metallurgist, Jared Orynik, for its proposed hydrometallurgical plant to be built near Langham, 30 km west of Saskatoon, SK. The plant will be built to treat concentrates from the Nico mine in the Northwest Territories.

 

Dr. Mark O'Dea, the president and CEO of Fronteer Development, has joined the board of Vancouver's Laurentian Goldfields.

 

Mineral Hill Industries of Vancouver has made three executive appointments. Hugh Maddin has been appointed the independent chairman, John Punzo is now president, and Dieter Peter will relinquish his role as chairman and president, retaining his duties as CEO.

 

George Tikkanen has joined the board of Vancouver's Paget Minerals.

 

Dr. Chris A. Fleming of SGS Lakefield is the recipient of the 2010 Canadian Mineral Processor of the Year Award, bestowed by the Canadian Mineral Processors, a division of the Canadian Institute of Mining Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM). Fleming is pas past recipient of five other CIM awards: Sherritt Hydrometallurgy (1997), Distinguished Lecturer (1997 and 1998), Fellowship (2004) and Airey Award (2009).
