Former Codelco president and CEO Juan Vilarzu has joined APOQUINDO MINERALS of Vancouver as its new chairman. He is also a former chairman of the International Copper Association, and a graduate of the University of Chicago.

Toronto-based ATLANTA GOLD has shuffled its head office as it prepares its gold mine in Idaho for production. Warren Holmes is now executive vice-chairman and director; William Baird is president and CEO; and Ernest Simmons is COO. Bruce Thorndycraft retains his role as VP operations and general manager of the project.

FNX MINING of Toronto has announced the resignation of Anthony Makuch from the position of senior VP and COO at the end of February 2008. Vernon Baker will become the VP of Sudbury mining operations, effective Feb. 1. He will reside in Sudbury, Ont.

Robert (Bob) Powers is the new VP mining at Vancouver's GOLD-ORE RESOURCES. Most recently he was on the team that reopened the Aljustral zinc mine in Portugal, and he has experience in several Canadian gold and base metal mines.

Phil Wright has taken over as president and CEO of Vancouver-based LUNDIN MINING. He is a graduate of the Harvard School of Business.

NOVAGOLD RESOURCES has asked Pol Guzman to become president and general manager and Gary Ward to be project director of the Galore Creek Mining Corp. They will be part of the team re-evaluating the stalled mine development.

Vancouver-based YUKON-NEVADA GOLD CORP. has appointed David Drips its new VP mining and promoted Sam Ash to manager of new operations.
