Patrick Downey has been elected to the board of ARGENTEX MINING in Vancouver. He is also president and CEO of Aura Minerals.

FNX MINING of Toronto has appointed William Shaver to the president's job at its DMC MINING SERVICES DIVISION. He is a graduate of the Haileybury School of Mines and of Queen's University. He was also a co-founder of Dynatec Corp. His appointment becomes effective Oct. 14, 2008.

New faces at FORTUNE MINERALS of London, Ont., include Thomas R. Rinaldi (VP operations) and Edward Farrell (Hemlo site superintendent). Among other projects, the company is developing its Nico cobalt-gold-bismuth project in the Northwest Territories. The mill from the former Golden Giant mine at Hemlo is being dismantled for its move to the Nico property.

HAWTHORNE GOLD of Vancouver has named Scott Smith as mine manager at the Cassiar gold camp. He is a former manager of the Eskay Creek gold mine and holds a degree in mine engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (now Dalhousie University).

Denver's NEWMONT MINING has promoted several of its management team, notably Brian Hill to executive VP operations, Guy Lansdown to executive VP development, Randy Engle to executive VP strategic development, Russell Ball to executive VP and CFO, and Alan Blank to executive VP legal and external affairs.

Dr. Allan E. Armitage is the new VP exploration at URANIUM NORTH RESOURCES of Vancouver. He has over 20 years experience both internationally and in northern Canada.
