George N. Paspalas is joining Aurizon Mines of Vancouver as its new president and CEO, effective Aug. 15, 2011. Current president and CEO David Hall will become chairman at that time. Paspalas is a graduate of the University of New South Wales with a BSc in chemical engineering. He has 14 years hands-on experience in mine development and operation around the world.

Castle Resources of Toronto has named Mike Sylvestre as CEO, effective July 1, 2011. He will retain his current responsibilities as president. Former CEO Stephen Shefsky has been appointed the company's executive chairman. Sylvestre has held senior management positions at Vale Inco in Manitoba, New Caledonia and PT Inco. He holds an MSc and a BSc in mining engineering from McGill University and Queen's University, respectively.

Montreal-based GeoMegA Resources has named Jacquelin Gauthier its VP exploration. He has previously been exploration manager at Kinross Gold, Bema Gold, Cambior and Noranda Exploration as well as president of Azimut Exploration.

Rio Novo Gold of Toronto has hired Brian Arkell as senior VP exploration and corporate development. He most recently held the position of director of geology for the Newmont-owned Hope Bay Mining.
