Toronto-based Axmin Inc. has named Francois Auclair the new VP exploration. He has worked on the African continent for many of his 20 years in the industry, and has been important in the development of several large projects and mining operations such as the Bisha project in Eritrea, the Bolivar mine in Mexico and the Tasiast mine in Mauritania. Auclair holds a MSc in geology and geochemistry from Université de Montréal and is fluent in English and French. The appointment is effective May 19, 2009, to coincide with the retirement of Dr. Jonathan Forster.

 

Canadian Gold Hunter of Vancouver has a new president and CEO, Dr. Wojtek Wodzicki following the business combination with Suramina Resources. The new Gold Hunter board includes Lukas Lundin (chair), Wojtek Wodzicki (president and CEO), Paul Conibear, John Craig, Lee Graber, Patricio Jones and William Rand.

 

The new COO at Vancouver's Fronteer Development Group is Troy J. Fierro. He has more than 25 years of experience overseeing the development, construction or management of mines in Nevada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Alaska. Most recently as an employee of Metallica Resources, Fierro played a leading role in construction of the Cerro San Pedro mine in Mexico.

 

Toronto's Southeast Asia Mining Corp. has appointed Kerry Smith its new president and CEO. John Steele has resigned those positions to focus his efforts on the company's subsidiary in Thailand. Smith is also chairman of the company.
