BHP BILLITON of Australia has hired a new group executive and CEO of non-ferrous business, Andrew Mackenzie. He joins the company from Rio Tinto where he was CEO of the diamonds and industrial minerals group.

Ian Bourne has joined the board of Calgary-based CANADIAN OIL SANDS LTD. He is chair of Ballard Power Systems Inc., and is a director for the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board as well as Wajax Income Fund and Wajax Limited.

Toronto-based FIRST NICKEL has appointed John C. Eby to its board of directors. He retired in 2006 as vice-chairman of Scotia Capital where he was head of the mining practice.

Walter Henry has joined GOLDEN ODYSSEY MINING of Toronto as a director and COO.

Dr. John B. Gammon, former assistant deputy minister of mines for Ontario, has been elected a director of Toronto's PROBE MINES. After retiring from government in 2005, he established the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation at Laurentian University. He is also the founder of the World Mines Ministries Forums, Toronto.

REVETT MINERALS of Spokane Valley, Washington, has named Louis Gignac to its board. He was most recently president and CEO of Cambior until that company was merged with IAMGOLD.
