Vancouver-based Canaco Resources proudly announced that its director of project development in Tanzania, Dr. David Groves, has been honoured with the Penrose Gold Medal awarded by the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG). The medal is awarded for a career notable for unusually original work in the earth sciences, which is be broadly interpreted to encompass major contributions to the development of mineral resources through mine geology, exploration and discovery. This is the highest honour SEG can bestow on a geologist.

Hana Mining of Vancouver has elected Alex Davidson to its board of directors. He is the former executive VP of exploration and corporate development at Barrick Gold.

Louis Lessard is the new president of Key Gold Holding in Quebec City. He is also president of Centre Financier de la Cite, a private company providing financial support to emerging companies.

MetalCorp of Thunder Bay, ON, has hired Jim Garber as its new manager of exploration. His 40-year career has been spent mainly in Ontario.

Tim Twomey has been promoted to the position of VP exploration at Premier Gold Mines of Thunder Bay, ON. He played a key role in the discovery, development and production of the HG zone at Red Lake, ON, while he was with Goldcorp before joining Premier in 2008.

Western Uranium of Vancouver has asked chairman R. Edward Flood to take over the roles of president and CEO as well, effective Dec. 31, 2010. He was deputy chairman and founding president of Ivanhoe Mines.
