Vancouver-based CANARC RESOURCE CORP. has added two seasoned mining professionals to its management team. Bruce Bried will assume the role of president and COO, effective Feb. 15. Garry Biles will join the company as VP and manager of the New Polaris gold project, effective March 1, 2007.

Scott Hand is retiring from his duties at CVRD INCO, and Murilo Ferreira will be the new president and CEO, based in Toronto. Ferreira will retain his position as executive director of CVRD. Leonard Moretzsohn, formerly director of internal controls at CVRD, will step into the job of executive VP and CFO. The management team includes COO Mark Cutifani; executive VP marketing Peter Goudie; executive VP, general counsel and secretary Simon Fish; executive VP human resources Scott McDonald; and executive VP Goro Nickel Phil du Toit.

FRANCONIA MINERALS of Spokane, Washington, has appointed George Tikkanen its chairman. He retired from a successful career at Cominco in 1995.

Joao Carrelo is to become the new COO of Vancouver-based LUNDIN MINING. He replaces Karl-Axel Waplan who will remain president of the company and assume the role of CEO. Former-CEO Colin Benner is stepping aside, but will retain his titles as vice-chair and director.

Toronto's NORTH AMERICAN PALLADIUM has named a new VP of exploration and development, Reno Pressacco. He holds an MSc from McGill University in Montreal.

SARGOLD RESOURCE CORP. of Vancouver has named George Paspalas as its president and COO. He comes to the position from Sargold subsidiary, Sardinia Gold Mining. From his days at Placer Dome Inc. he counts among his accomplishments the Osborne, Granny Smith and Wallaby projects in Australia, the North Mara mine in Tanzania, the Donlin Creek project in Alaska, the Cortez Hills expansion in Nevada and the Pueblo Viejo project in the Dominican Republic.
