MINING PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: CEMI, Evolving Gold, Goldcorp, Mine Radio, and Victoria Gold

The Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) of Sudbury, ON, has named Douglas Morrison as its new president and CEO, effective March 1, 2012. Since joining CEMI in 2011, he has been VP and now succeeds Dr. Peter K. Kaiser, who will direct his energy to the Rio Tinto Centre for Underground Mine Construction, a division of CEMI. Kaiser will also assume an advisory research role at CEMI and resume his research at Laurentian University as chair for rock mechanics and ground control.

R. Bruce Duncan is the new CEO of Vancouver-based Evolving Gold Corp. He has over 30 years of experience in the capital markets and brokerage industry. He was instrumental in leading the spinout of the Kiyuk resources from Evolving Gold into Prosperity Goldfields. Duncan succeeds William Gee.

Goldcorp, headquartered in Vancouver, has added Blanca Treviño to its board of directors. She is also president and CEO of Softtek, a global provider of process-driven infomration technology solutions.

Mine Radio Systems of Goodwood, ON, has appointed Warren Dix as western regional manager, based in the new Perth, Australia, office.

Andrew Kaczmarek will be the new COO at Toronto’s Victoria Gold Corp., effective March 15, 2012. He has over 35 years of diverse natural resource experience in project development, construction and operations, having held senior management positions with developing and producing companies. He was most recently VP mine development at Alacer Gold.
