Keith Minty was recently named chairman of London, Ont.-based CHINA DIAMOND CORP. He is a graduate of the mining engineering program at Queen's University and a former executive with North American Palladium. For his accomplishments, Minty received the 2000 Mining Man of the Year award from The Northern Miner Newspaper.

At its recent annual convention in Toronto, the PROSPECTORS AND DEVELOPERS ASSOCIATION OF CANADA made the following awards. The Thayer Lindsley International Discovery Award went to Larry J. Buchanan of APEX SILVER MINES for his discovery of the San Cristobal silver deposit in Bolivia. The Bill Dennis Prospector of the Year Award went to the team of Andre Gaumond, Paul Archer, Alain Cayer and Jean-Francois Ouellette of VIRGINIA GOLD MINES for the Roberto gold discovery. The Viola R. MacMillan Developer's Award went to Michael Kenyon and Roman Shklanka, co-founders of CANICO RESOURCE CORP., which owns the Onca-Puma nickel deposit in Brazil. The Special Achievement Award went to Ian Telfer of GOLDCORP for his entrepreneurial and financing achievements. And the E3 Environment Excellence in Exploration Award went to GREYSTAR RESOURCES for its work at the Angostura gold-silver project in Columbia.

Toronto-based WARDROP ENGINEERING has selected Shayne Smith to succeed Ernie Card as CEO of the company. Smith is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, and joined the company in 1994.

QUINTO TECHNOLOGY of Delta, B.C., has named Edward Lyons to the position of chief geologist. The company is exploring for iron ore, uranium, base metals and graphite across Canada.
