MINING PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: Eldorado Gold, Kirkham Geosystems, Mining Association of Canada, and Yukon-Nevada Gold

Eldorado Gold of Vancouver has named Norm Pitcher to the position of president and Paul Skayman to the position of COO. Paul Wright will continue his role as CEO.

Eldorado Gold of Vancouver has named Norm Pitcher to the position of president and Paul Skayman to the position of COO. Paul Wright will continue his role as CEO.

Garth Kirkham, principal at Kirkham Geosystems of Burnaby, BC, was awarded the Julian Boldy Award recognizing exceptional services to the Geological Society of the CIM and the mining industry. Kirkham is also the recipient of two other CIM awards, the Barlow Memorial Medal in 2006 and the JC Sproule Memorial Plaque in 2010. He is currently the chair of the Best Practices Committee and past president of the Geological Society with the CIM, chair of the Securities Committee with Geoscientist Canada, past councillor and vice-chair of the Geoscience Committee for APEGBC. He is also a director Romios Gold, Kivalliq Energy, Kaminak Gold, and Sierra Madre Developments.

The Mining Association of Canada, based in Ottawa, has elected Ian Pearce, CEO of Xstrata Nickel, to the position of chairman for a two-year term. He replaces Doug Horswill of Teck Resources.

Yukon-Nevada Gold of Vancouver said it has accepted the resignation of president and CEO Robert F. Baldock. CFO Shaun Heinrichs and COO Randy Reichert will jointly assume the roles of president and CEO while continuing to act in their existing capacities with the company.
