George Elliot has agreed to join the board of Vancouver’s ESPERANZA SILVER CORP. He served as chairman and CEO of Titanium Corp. from 2000 to 2007. Earlier he was senior counsel at Gowling, Lafleur & Henderson, a diversified Canadian law firm. He also serves as director of a number of other companies including Gammon Gold Inc.

FISSION ENERGY of Vancouver has promoted Ross McElroy to the position of president and COO. Stepping up from his role as VP exploration, McElroy formerly held positions with BHP Billiton Diamonds, Cogema Canada and Cameco, where he was a member of the MacArhtur River discovery team. Jody Dahrouge has stepped down as president and COO but will remain on the company’s board.

Rod Ogilvie has accepted a seat on the board of Saskatoon’s FORAN MINING CORP.

Vancouver-based GLOBAL URANIUM CORP. has a new CEO, Timea Carlsen, and a new CFO, Alnesh Mohan.

Toronto’s LAKE SHORE GOLD has appointed Jonathan Gill to the board, Eric Kallio as VP exploration and Pierre Rocque as director technical services. Gill’s experience includes a career with Inco in Ontario, Manitoba and Indonesia, and he retired in 2003. Both Kallio and Rocque have extensive experience with gold projects northern Ontario. Lake Shore is advancing exploration at its Timmins West property and refurbishing its Bell Creek mill.

RED METAL RESOURCES will be the new name of Red Lake Exploration, based in Thunder Bay, Ont. To go with the new name, the company is adding a new face to its team. University of Toronto graduate David Burga will be exploration manager for South America.

The new VP exploration at Toronto-based WSR GOLD is Mike Kilbourne, who recently worked on discoveries in the James Bay Lowlands, Ont.

Toronto-headquartered XTIERRA INC. has named Gerald J. Gauthier the new COO. He was previously COO at Nevsun Resources and VP operations at Glencairn Gold. He is a graduate of Queen’s University in mining engineering. Gauthier is currently a director of Labrador Iron Mines Holdings, Conquest Resources and Gold World Resources. He was also general manager of the Williams gold mine at Hemlo, Ont. and senior VP North American operations for Lac Minerals.
