FINNING INTERNATIONAL of Vancouver has named James Carter, former president and CEO of Syncrude Canada, to its board of directors.

Charles Ross is taking up the challenge of president and James Ravannack that of CEO at GOLDEX RESOURCE CORP. of Vancouver.

The ONTARIO MINING ASSOCIATION's new chairman is Jeremy Wyeth, VP in charge of the Victor mine project for De Beers Canada. A graduate of the University of Witwatersrand, Wyeth came to Canada in 2001 to work on the Snap Lake diamond project.

In preparation for their merger ALCAN INC. of Montreal and RIO TINTO of Melbourne, Australia, have named a new executive management team for the transition. Dick Evans, Alcan's president and CEO, will become chief executive of the combined aluminium product group, RIO TINTO ALCAN, based in Montreal, and will report directly to Rio Tinto's chief executive, Tom Albanese. The leaders of Rio Tinto Alcan's various business units will be Steve Hodgson (president and CEO bauxite and alumina), Jacynthe Cote (president and CEO primary metal), Christel Bories (president and CEO engineered products), and Ilene Gordon (president and CEO packaging).

STARFIELD RESOURCES of Toronto has named Fred Mason VP operations. He will be responsible for the administration and operations of the Ferguson Lake polymetallic project in Nunavut.
