The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia awarded its 2006 C.J. Westerman Memorial Award to Patrick McAndless, who is VP exploration at Vancouver-based IMPERIAL METALS. McAndless joined Imperial in 1996 as part of its merger with Bethlehem Resources. He is an honours geology graduate of the University of British Columbia.

Rob McEwen, CEO of both Denver-based U.S. GOLD and Toronto's LEXAM EXPLORATIONS, has been named the Most Innovative CEO by Canadian Business Magazine. He was selected for his innovations that made Goldcorp a mining powerhouse and for his and wife Cheryl's $10-million donation to the University of Toronto Health Network, as well as other accomplishments.

CANMEX MINERALS of Vancouver has named Richard Schmitt as president and CEO. He brings almost 30 years experience in the upstream oil & gas industry to the position.

Vancouver-based NORTH AMERICAN TUNGSTEN has given the job of COO to J. Britt Reid. He was recent VP mining operations for Aur Resources and oversaw the Quebrada Blanca and Carmen de Andacollo projects in Chile.

ATACAMA MINERALS of Vancouver announced that Brian Kennedy is joining the company as VP operations. He holds a degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of British Columbia and has held senior process and project management positions with AMEC, Rescan and Fluor Daniel.
