Pierre Lassonde, president and CEO of NEWMONT MINING, has been awarded the Gold Medal at the annual ONTARIO PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS' awards gala in Toronto on Nov. 20. The award is given to recognized global leadership within the profession. Throughout his career, Lassonde has promoted mining education and research within Canada and internationally. He established the Lassonde Institute for Engineering Geoscience at the University of Toronto and has revitalized the university's Mineral Engineering Program, which was subsequently named after him. He is also a long-time supporter of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.

ENTRE GOLD of Vancouver has named Peter Meredith to its board of directors. He is CFO of both Ivanhoe Capital Corp. and Ivanhoe Mines and sits on the boards of several other companies.

Following the retirement of Dennis G. Maschmeyer, Jowdat Waheed will become president and CEO of Toronto-based SHERRITT INTERNATIONAL. Waheed joined the company in 1991 and will remain executive VP and COO until Jan. 1, 2005.

JAGUAR NICKEL of Toronto has hired Paul Nagerl as exploration project manager of the Sechol nickel laterite project in Guatemala. At the same time, the company announced its has named Lynne A. Coles, director of investor relations and corporate communications.

Adam Schatzker has joined Toronto-based BREAKWATER RESOURCES as manager of corporate development.

CUSAC GOLD MINES of Vancouver announced that president and CEO Guilford H. Brett is stepping down. He will be replaced by David H. Brett who is the current CFO and has been a director of the company for 11 years.
