TECK COMINCO of Vancouver has made two executive appointments. First, Robert G. Scott moves from general manager of the company's Red Dog mine in Alaska into the corporate office as VP base metal mining. Second, Ronald J. Vance joins the firm as senior VP of corporate development. Most recently he was a managing director at Rothschild Inc., and prior to that he held senior commercial roles at Newmont Mining.

David Swisher, a graduate of mining engineering from the University of Idaho, has joined TAMERLANE VENTURES of Blaine, Wash., as project manager to develop the Pine Point lead-zinc project in the Northwest Territories.

Toronto-based RIO NARCEA GOLD MINES announced that effective Jan. 1, 2006, its chairman Chris I. von Christierson will assume the additional duties of CEO. John W.W. Hick, the current CEO, will become vice-chairman of the board. The change was decided following a strategic review of the company's assets and management.

On Jan. 9, 2006, Vancouver's NEW GOLD INC. will welcome Kevin Ross as its COO. He is a graduate mining engineer from the Royal School of Mines in London, U.K., and holds an MBA degree as well.

INTERNATIONAL WAYSIDE GOLD MINES of Vancouver has retained Sandy Martin as senior project engineer to advance its Bonanza Ledge gold project in the Cariboo district of British Columbia toward production next year.

Ferdi Dippenaar has been named president & CEO of GREAT BASIN GOLD in Vancouver. He is a graduate of North West University in South Africa and recently was executive director of corporate affairs for Harmony Gold. Dippenaar will also advise other companies managed by the HUNTER DICKINSON GROUP.

GEMCOM SOFTWARE of Vancouver has named Marius Botha its VP of services and Ram Sudama as its new chief technology officer.

Toronto-based ARCHANGEL DIAMOND CORP. has announced the resignation of Ray Clark from the company. Jonathan Dickman, now a VP, will replace him as president & CEO. The company also said it has added Tom Beardmore-Gray to its board.
