Vancouver-based TECK COMINCO has announced the retirement of Jim Popowich from the top job at ELK VALLEY COAL PARTNERSHIP. Boyd Payne will replace him as Elk Valley president and CEO. Payne was previously VP marketing for BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance. He has also held senior positions at Fording Coal, Manalta Coal and Gregg River Resources.

Daniel D. Johnson and Frank Balint have been nominated to the board of directors of WOLFDEN RESOURCES of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Johnson was involved in the development of both BHP Diamond's Ekati and Tahera's Jericho diamond mines. Balint also holds the job of VP corporate development for Inmet Mining.

Jacynthe Cote, the president and CEO of Montreal-based ALCAN's bauxite and alumina division, has been recognized as one of the Women of Distinction by the Women's Y Foundation of Montreal. The award acknowledges the contributions of a female professional who has served as an inspiration to other women through her example and accomplishments.

QUADREM of Amsterdam and Dallas has chosen Jim Goge to lead its global sales and marketing initiatives.

Vancouver's EUROZINC MINING has named Joao Carrelo to the position of executive VP and COO. He will continue his responsibilities as EuroZinc's country manager in Portugal and managing director of the company's subsidiary that owns the Neves-Corvo copper-zinc mine.
