XSTRATA COPPER, which is maintaining offices in Toronto, has named Claude Ferron its COO of Xstrata Copper Canada. Ferron was formerly president of Falconbridge's Canadian copper and recycling division. His responsibilities will include Kidd Creek in Ontario as well as the Horne smelter and Canadian Copper Refinery (CCR) in Quebec.

Effective Sept. 15, Keith C. Minty will take up the reins as president and COO of Oakville, Ontario's ST ANDREW GOLDFIELDS. He is a former president and CEO of North American Palladium and was named Mining Man of the Year in 2002 for his efforts with that company.

Vancouver-based NIKOS EXPLORATIONS has chosen its team to investigate the gold potential of several sites in the former Soviet Union under the auspices of its subsidiary, Altynor Gold. Named to the team are Nikolay Rusanov, VP operations; Sergei Kozhevnikov, director of IT and GIS; Anatoly Berezansky, chief geologist; Boris Guzman, non-executive director; and Natalya Zhuravel, chief accountant.

David Strang has been appointed president and CEO of Vancouver-based LUMINA RESOURCES. He will retain his position as president and CEO of Global Copper Corp.

LA QUINTA RESOURCES of Vancouver has named Malcolm Swallow its next chairman and CEO, replacing former-CEO Glen Watson, who will retain his title as president. Swallow is a graduate of Imperial College in London, U.K., and has over 30 years experience.
