MINING PEOPLE: New Gold, Encanto Potash, and Weir

[caption id="attachment_1003723956" align="alignright" width="214"] Jim Gowans[/caption] The newest director at Toronto-based New Gold is Jim Gowans, a past president of the CIM, chairman of the Mining Association of Canada, and a director of the Conference Board of Canada. He is currently the president and CEO of Arizona Mining. Vancouver-based Encanto Potash Corp. has named Richard Lively to the position of COO. He will oversee the design engineering and construction for the Muskowekwan project in Saskatchewan. Lively is a 31-year veteran of PotashCorp. The Weir Group of Madison, Wisc., has completed its acquisition of Esco Corp. Current Esco president and CEO Jon Owens will continue to lead the business as it becomes a division of Weir.
