Samantha Espley, general manager of mines and mill technical services at Vale's Ontario Operations is the recipient of the second annual Women in Mining Canada National Trailblazer Award. The award, recognizing a woman who has taken personal career risks and helped advance the careers of other women, was presented at the PDAC conference in Toronto on March 5, 2013.

Detour Gold Corp. of Toronto has promoted Pierre Beaudoin to the role of COO. He is a mineral processing professional with over 28 years of international operating and project development experience and joined Detour Gold in early 2010 as its senior VP capital projects.

Based in Saskatoon, SK, Golden Band Resources has named Paul Saxton its new chairman and CEO. He has over 35 years of experience several mining companies in diverse positions including mining engineer, operations manager and president and has been instrumental in building four operating mines.

West Kirkland Mining of Vancouver has named Sandy McVey to the position of COO. He joined the company in November 2012 as manager of projects, and he will spearhead the development of the company's TUG project, a gold-silver asset in Utah.

Robert Quinn is now chairman of Toronto-based North American Palladium. Former chairman Andre Douchane will continue to hold down the position of CEO until he is replaced. Quinn has been a member of the company's board since June 2006 and has over 30 years of experience in the mining industry.
