NET NIT – Even better number from MAC poll

Pierre Gratton, VP of sustainable development and public affairs at the MINING ASSOCIATION OF CANADA, e-mailed to say I omitted the "strongly agree" numbers such as those for improved environmental performance and high-tech usage from last week's editorial about the MAC poll of public perception. Including the "strongly agree" numbers makes the overall figures even better.

I wrote: "They agree that mining is more environmentally sustainable than it was 50 years ago (61% of informed Canadians and 63% of the general public). They recognize mining as a high-tech, innovative industry (68% I.C. and 66% G.P.).

Gratton corrected: "The actual numbers, including 'strongly agree', are 74% and 76% [for environmental] and 85% and 80% [for high-tech], respectively."

We thank him for pointing this out.
