ONTARIO - Toronto's FNX MINING officially declared commercial production at the Podolsky nickel mine near Sudbury on Jan. 1, 2008. Production to date is from the high-grade copper-nickel-platinum-palladium-gold 2000 deposit on the 2500 level. Additional development is ongoing to join the 1750 and 2500 levels with a ramp from which crosscuts are being established to provide more working places.
The Podolsky mine is scheduled to increase production during the year until the planned production rate of 1,088 t/d per day is reached later in 2008. A total of 265,000 tonnes of ore is scheduled to be produced in 2008.
