MICHIGAN – Toronto-based Lundin Mining Corp. has declared commercial production at its Eagle high grade nickel-copper mine in the Upper Peninsula 53 km by road east of Marquette. The milestone was reached less than two months after start-up on Sept. 23 and on budget.

Ore from the Eagle mine is trucked 105 km to the Humboldt mill, located west of Marquette, for processing. The Humboldt mill was formerly an iron ore concentrator. It was refurbished with a throughput of 2,000 t/d to produce nickel and copper concentrates.

The mine is a shallow, underground operation with proven and probable reserves totaling 5.16 million tonnes grading 2.6% Cu and 3.1% Ni.
