ONTARIO – Toronto's First Nickel has reported an accident at the underground Lockerby nickel-copper mine near Sudbury claimed the lives of two drillers. Both were employees of Taurus Drilling Services.

The two men were Marc Methe (34) and Norm Bissaillon (49).

The company believes a fall of ground, preceded by seismic activity, was a factor in the accident. All underground activities except emergency requirements, were immediately suspended and authorities notified. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched.

First Nickel pledged to work with government authorities to investigate the incident. It is also working closely with Taurus Drilling to ensure that the miners' families receive counselling support. Counselling is also available for all employees and workers on site.

The First Nickel website is at FirstNickel.com.
