ONTARIO – First Nickel says that the Ontario Ministry of Labour has approved the restart of underground operations in all areas of the Lockerby mine near Sudbury, except for the level where two contract drillers were killed on May 6. The area where the accident occurred remains under restricted access. This follows an underground inspection by the Ministry on May 7, 2014.

The company began recalling its workforce on May 8. Prior to resuming operations, employees will be reintegrated into the worksite through a series of sessions designed to provide a safety reorientation, which will reconfirm First Nickel's commitment to providing a safe working environment for employees and contractors.

The Ministry investigation, with the support of the company, into the accident, will continue for an undetermined length of time.

Please see the First Nickel website at FirstNickel.com for updates.
