NICKEL MINING: Record production from Bucko Lake

MANITOBA - CaNickel Mining of Vancouver has developed several longhole stopes at its Bucko Lake nickel mine near Wabowden and been rewarded with record monthly production numbers.

The company tested longhole open stoping in January 2012 to cut costs, and that month produced a record 25,102 tonnes of ore. Of the total, 10,316 tonnes came from the longhole stopes, and the balance (14,786 tonnes) from the cut and fill stopes.

The mining rate was scaled back to 400-500 t/d in December 2011, but full production at a rate of 600-700 t/d was resumed on Feb. 1, 2012.
