ALBERTA - Expansion of the Muskeg River oil sands mine and bitumen recovery plant has been given the nod by both the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board and the Government of Canada. The expansion includes a new mine on Lease 13, recovery plant and Scotford upgrader expansions, and the construction of common upstream and infrastructure to support future expansion. This $7.3-billion, first phase of expansion will add 100,000 bbl/day to the output, bringing it to 255,000 bbl/day by 2010.

The Muskeg River mine and related facilities are operated by the ATHABASCA OIL SANDS PARTNERSHIP (AOSP), which is owned 60% by SHELL CANADA, 20% by WESTERN OIL SANDS and 20% by CHEVRON CANADA. Employment opportunities at Muskeg River may be explored at www.AlbianSands.com. Candidates may apply online.
