ONTARIO – Milling at the Lac des Iles palladium project 85 km northwest of Thunder Bay, has been suspended and owner North American Palladium says the timing of the restart is uncertain. The late and rapid onset of spring has caused water balance issues, according to the company.

Repairs are being made to the liner of a reclaim pond, but additional leakages have been encountered at water containment structures and they must be repaired before restarting the mill. Another leak in a decommissioned tailings pond that is being used to store reclaim water is also being assessed. NAP says it is working with stakeholders and regulators to keep them informed about its mitigation progress. The shutdown is also an opportunity to advance planned mill maintenance.

The underground mine has not been affected, and ore is being stockpiled on the surface to await treatment. The mill has excess capacity to handle the additional material once operation resumes.
