SASKATCHEWAN –  From its Canadian headquarters in Montreal, ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, says it has won an order to supply a state-of-the-art automation solution for K+S Potash Canada's greenfield potash mine in Saskatchewan.

K+S is building a solution mine and production facility near Moose Jaw as part of its Legacy project. It will be the first new potash mine built in Saskatchewan in nearly 40 years. Once up and running in late 2016, it is expected to reach the 2 million t/y-mark of production capacity at the end of 2017.

ABB's scope of supply includes a turnkey plant wide 800xA solution, fully integrated automation, hardware, programming, installation, commissioning and life-cycle support.

According to ABB, K+S chose System 800xA because the solution embeds both automation and power into a unified control environment with one single engineering, operations and maintenance strategy, making it ideally suited for composite mining projects with the integration of plant wide process control and electrical power systems.

In Canada, (www.abb.ca) ABB employs about 5,000 people in more than 45 locations from coast to coast who are experts in their field of technology. The company has been serving its Canadian customers for nearly a century with reliable energy efficient solutions for utilities, industry, buildings, infrastructure and transportation.
