RESERVES: IamGold numbers up 13% for gold, 34% for niobium

TORONTO - The year-end tally of its resources done by IamGold resulted in a 13% increase for gold and 34% increase for niobium reserves.

TORONTO - The year-end tally of its resources done by IamGold resulted in a 13% increase for gold and 34% increase for niobium reserves.

Proven and probable reserves of gold were up 1.9 million oz (net of depletion) to 16.4 million oz. That included a 1.1 million oz increase at the Rosebel mine in Surinam and an 800,000 oz increase at the Sandiola mine in Mali. The company also had gains in measured and indicated gold resources (includes reserves) that now stand at 21.4 million oz and in inferred resources at 8.0 million oz.

At IamGold's Niobec niobium mine in Quebec, numbers are also up. Proven and probable reserves now stand at 45.7 million tonnes grading 0.53% Nb2O5 or 243.8 million kg of contained niobium oxide. There are also 59.7 million tonnes of inferred resources at the same grade.

Also in Quebec, the estimate for the Westwood gold project was updated. Contained ounces in all categories rose 6% to 3.5 million contained oz. The indicated portion is 719,000 tonnes at 11.6 g/t Au and the inferred portion is 9.7 million tonnes at 11.1 g/t. Proven and probable reserves at the Doyon gold mine total 175,000 tonnes averaging 13.0 g/t Au. Total contained ounces in all categories is approximately 529,000 oz.
