QUEBEC - LAB CHRYSOTILE of Thetford Mines has reached a safety milestone. One crew at the Black Lake open pit asbestos mine has worked more than 500,000 hours without a lost time accident, since late April 1996. This result, unequalled at LAB Chrysotile, was made possible thanks to the sustained effort, the concentration at all times as well as the participation of each crew member, well supported by their colleagues on the mining operation's other crews.

The group was directed by Donald Houle, assisted by Gaston Nadeau and Jacques Carrier, as well as several previous foremen. The accomplishment was celebrated at a special dinner in December, where the employees involved, accompanied by their spouses or partners, received congratulations from LAB's management.
