ONTARIO – Sudbury will be the host of the 10th International Mines Rescue Competition from August 19-26, 2016.

This will be the first international competition held in Canada, and the first in North America since 2008. About 30 teams from 20 nations are expected to compete in an underground simulation, firefighting, first aid tests and more. The underground emergency scenario will be staged at Vale’s 114 orebody at Copper Cliff mine.

Hosted by Workplace Safety North and Ontario Mine Rescue, the competition is sponsored by Vale, Glencore, KGHM, Goldcorp and Drager.

A website has been launched, and will be the main source of information for the competition. It can be found at IMRC2016.ca.
