MEXICO – Avino Silver & Gold Mines of Vancouver has re-started mining at its Avino silver mine 80 km northeast of Durango. The mine originally opened in the 1500s and operated sporadically, finally passing into the hands of Avino in 1974. It was closed in 2001 due to lagging precious metals prices.

After dewatering the workings, Avino removed 5,850 tonnes of muck that had been under water. Full scale mining has begun on level 11.5 and will proceed also on level 12. The ramp will be extended from level 12.5 to level 17. Development material is being stockpiled in anticipation of milling it next month along with the reclaimed muck.

Circuit No.3 at the mill will be commissioned in Q4 2014. So far the product screens at the crushing plant have been replaced and the ball mill relined with rubber. Electrical installations for the thickener is in progress, and a roof over the thickener and filter area has been started.
