ALBERTA – Newalta Corporation of Calgary has signed a contract with Shell Canada to process mature fine tailings from Shell's Jackpine oil sands mine near Fort McMurray. Newalta expects to complete the design and installation of two large bowl centrifuges over the next six months so that operations can begin in October 2013. Twenty new jobs will be created.

Two years ago Newalta signed a similar contract with Syncrude to treat mature tailings from its oil sands operations.
