TORONTO - INCO LTD. and FALCONBRIDGE have received a request from the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Dept. of Justice regarding Inco's friendly takeover of Falconbridge. The request, under the terms of the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, would extend the waiting period beyond Nov. 16 to 30 days after the companies have responded to the request.
Inco and Falconbridge jointly stated that they anticipated the request and will respond promptly. They have been working with the department's staff and will continue to do so. The companies are also working with the competition authorities in Europe and Canada.
