MUSCATINE, Iowa - Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions (BBTS), a division of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, has launched a new campaign designed to promote retreading. At the heart of the effort is an appeal to fleet owners to consider extending their casing age limits (to seven years from five) when retreading.

By adding those two years to a fleet's specs, one to two additional retreads per casing can be done and that lowers overall operating costs, says BBTS.

The shortage of new replacement tires is expected to continue in 2011, making retreading more attractive for all types of fleets. Bandag estimates that a typical fleet with 1,000 trucks traveling an average of 160,000 km per year could save close to $1 million in tire costs.

BBTS has launched a new web site, www.RetreadInstead.com, to provide fleet managers with tools and information to get the most out of retreading. The site includes a wheel position analyzer tool, a cost-analysis example for considering extending current casing age limits, and an informational video one shearography, a modern casing inspection technology that ensures retread reliability.
