QUEBEC – Argex Titanium of Montreal has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contact to Tecnicas Reunidas Group for Argex's first industrial scale, 50,000-t/y titanium dioxide plant. The plant will be located in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, 40 km southwest of Montreal.

The EPC contract will be performed in two phases. The first includes front end engineering and design work, and the second will cover detailed design and construction. Work on phase one will begin once Argex receives the needed financing. If work does not begin by June 29, 2015, Tecnicas may elect to terminate the EPC contract.

Should the plant reach the construction phase, Argex and Tecnicas will share the costs equally. Total cost of the EPC contract is currently estimated at US$200 million. Initial feedstock will be commercially available sulphate grade ilmenite concentrate.
