NORTHWEST TERRITORIES – The federal government is putting money into the new surface miner training program development project operated by the Northwest Territories Miner Training Society and Aurora College. The new program will begin this summer and graduate its first class sometimes in 2016.

Funding for the new surface miner training program will come from industry ($220,000) and CanNor ($550,000 over two years). The total project has a value of $879,500.

The announcement was made by the Hon Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency and Minister for the Arctic Council, on May 1, 2015, in Yellowknife.
