ORMSTOWN, Quebec — LEAD Canada Inc. has become the first North American organization certified by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to provide GRI-certified courses on GRI’s sustainable reporting framework in Canada.

GRI pioneered the development of the world’s most widely used sustainability reporting framework. The framework sets out the principles and indicators that organizations can use to measure and report their economic, environmental, and social performance. It provides guidance on how organizations can disclose their sustainability performance.

“The GRI guidelines represent the best approach for achieving the goal of standardized sustainability reporting,” said Rock Lefebvre, VP research and standards at the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada, one of LEAD Canada’s institutional sponsors for the GRI-certified courses.

The course will provide hands-on guidance to new sustainability reporters and further improve the practices of experienced reporters. Course participants will receive their successful completion certificates directly from GRI.

LEAD’s first GRI-certified course was delivered Dec. 15-16, 2008 in Toronto. Additional courses are scheduled for Montreal (Jan 15-16, 2009), Calgary (Feb. 5-6, 2009), Vancouver (Feb. 19-20, 2009), and Toronto (March 2-3, 2009). The course brochure can be downloaded at www.LeadCanada.net/GRI_course.html and additional information can be requested from mehrdad@prizmasolutions.com.
