PERTH, Australia – Immersive Technologies, the global leader in operator workforce development solutions for mining announced today that a major copper mining company in Arizona has chosen to have their shovel operators trained by Immersive in order to prepare for soon to be commissioned hydraulic shovels. This proactive approach to training is part of a strategy to ensure that newly commissioned equipment is run by confident operators who are already trained to be productive and safe.

During this engagement, Immersive Technologies specialists carried out operator risk assessments, shovel control familiarization and emergency response training for a large group of experienced operators.  The mine engaged Immersive Technologies to develop a short curriculum and administer training to the group who will be the first to operate the newly commissioned hydraulic shovels.  These services were delivered with the aid of the industry’s leading operator training technology, the PRO3-B Advanced Equipment Simulator, also supplied by Immersive Technologies.

In addition to the training delivered, comprehensive data captured by the Advanced Equipment Simulator was analysed and presented back to site management clearly indicating the level of skill achieved by each Operator, along with flagging further areas of potential improvement.

In 2000 the first Immersive training solutions were provided from the Immersive Technologies’ North American regional sales and support office and since then over 64 sites and training schools in the region have adopted Immersive Technologies as a partner in addressing the demand for more productive and safer operators.

“By proactively training staff on new fleet arrivals immediately prior to putting equipment to work in an operation, mines can ensure that each new piece of equipment gets to full production faster and that operators are fully competent in responding to machine alarms and emergency events. This type of service significantly reduces implementation risk involved in buying and receiving new equipment,” says Immersive Technologies Regional Vice President - North America, Cory Cook.

Immersive Technologies’ specialists who carried out the work are unique in the industry. Each candidate is trained in Immersive’s exclusive technology integration and operator training methodology. They are also embedded with Immersive’s global support network and have direct access to exclusive intellectual property for mine operator training. The end result is a value added service that is fully backed by Immersive Technologies, and their demonstrated capability to reduce mining risk.
