PAPUA NEW GUINEA - NAUTILUS MINERALS of Vancouver is on the verge of developing its Solwara project on the seafloor off the east coast, says CEO and president David Heydon.

Work is advancing on several fronts. Nautilus is ready to order the major equipment for the treatment facility. The contract for metallurgical testing has been awarded to AMMTEC. The search for a vessel to serve as a mining platform is underway with encouraging responses from industry. The company has also received tenders from suppliers of subsea mining tools and dredging equipment.

Nautilus is the first company to explore the ocean floor for commercially recoverable gold and silver massive sulphide deposits. It has several potential mining blocks in the Bismarck and Solomon seas. TECK COMINCO has an option to earn interests in some of these blocks.
