QUEBEC – Strateco Resources of Boucherville, QC, reported that the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) staff recommends that the Commission Tribunal approve the issuance of a five-year licence to Strateco, the maximum period allowed, for its Matoush uranium project underground exploration program.

Moreover, the CNSC staff has concluded that the project, as described, poses a low overall risk to health, safety and the environment. CNSC staff further concluded that Strateco is qualified to carry on the activity authorized by the licence and that it will make adequate provision for the protection of the environment, the health and safety of persons and the maintenance of national security.

The Matoush project will mine one of the world’s highest grade uranium deposits. Using a cut-off grade of 0.10% U3O8, indicated resources are 453,000 tonnes grading 0.78% U3O8 and containing 7.78 million lb of U3O8. The inferred resource is 2.04 million tonnes grading 0.43% U3O8 and containing 19.22 million lb U3O8.
