NORTHWEST TERRITORIES – Canadian Zinc Corp. of Vancouver and the Government of the Northwest Territories continue to co-operate, advancing their August 2011 socio-economic agreement for the development of the Prairie Creek zinc-lead mine 200 km west of Fort Simpson.

On Aug. 13, 2012, Canadian Zinc played host to a number of dignitaries at the mine site. The guest list included the premier Bob McLeod; minister of industry, tourism and investment David Ramsey; minister of justice and human resources Glen Abernethy as well as Herb Norwegian, grand chief of the Dehcho First Nations.

The company reported that its guests were particularly interested in the ongoing training programs for local residents. The $4.2 million Silver Lining training program is funded by the Government of Canada and managed by the Mine Training Society, in partnership with Canadian Zinc and the NWT government. So far in 2012 the local Silver Lining training program has trained 62 individuals, with many of the graduates joining the staff at the Prairie Creek mine, Canadian Zinc's Fort Simpson office, or service providers to the project.

Following the visit to Prairie Creek, Canadian Zinc and the NWT Department of Transportation signed a collaboration agreement to ensure effective co-operation related to the public transportation infrastructure that will support the Prairie Creek mine project.

Information about the Prairie Creek mine is available at CanadianZinc.com.
