ZINC-LEAD: Prairie Creek edges closer to production

NORTHWEST TERRITORIES – The Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board has recommended to the federal government that the Prairie Creek zinc-lead project be given the key Type A water licence. The water licence, when approved and signed by the minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, will allow owner Canadian Zinc Corp. of Vancouver to conduct mining, milling and processing operations at the site 200 km west of Fort Simpson.

Earlier this year Canadian Zinc received its land use permits covering the access road and transportation, refurbishment and construction of surface facilities including the waste dump, and the transfer facility to store outbound zinc and lead concentrates as well as inbound supplies. The water permit is the final permit needed for commercial operation of the project.

The Prairie Creek project is an underground mine with a refurbished 1,000-t/d million.
