ATACAMA DESERT, Chile The world's largest copper mine, Escondida owned by BHP BILLITON, has ordered a third P&H 4100XPB shovel for the pit. Two similar shovels are already at work there, and the new one will be shipped from the factory at the end of May 2003. The new shovel is equipped with a 73-yd3 Optima Plus dipper.
P&H MINEPRO has been given the erection and commissioning contract. MinePro will also handle maintenance and repairs, including ground engaging tools and wire ropes, for the first two years of operations.
